Venkat is a Partner at BGV. He is an operator, builder, and entrepreneur with over 25 years of enterprise software experience spanning big tech and start-ups. Venkat has held a variety of senior operational roles in products, research and development, general management, business and corporate development. His areas of expertise include incubating, developing, and scaling businesses in AI/ML, Cyber Security and Cloud Native technologies.

Prior to BGV, Venkat was the Vice President for Strategic Business Development at IBM Research where he incubated, incubated and deployed early-stage research technologies into IBM’s AI, Cloud and Blockchain Offerings.

Prior to that, Venkat held several senior executive roles at IBM Security and Blue Coat Systems. As one of the original leaders of IBM Security, Venkat constructed a world class security portfolio that organically added a net new billion-dollar plus security business. With category leadership position across numerous Cyber Security market segments, Venkat established IBM as a trusted enterprise security brand in the Global 2000. At Blue Coat Systems, Venkat reengineered the turnaround and repositioning of Blue Coat from a single product leader to a next generation enterprise security leader with category leadership. Under Private Equity operating model, Venkat developed the company transformation agenda, revitalized organic innovation accelerated new product development, and revitalized growth.

Venkat started his cybersecurity journey at Freddie Mac where he architected and pioneered Web and Internet based Loan Origination Systems. Later as DASCOM (startup pioneer in Web security), he helped built a Web security platform that accelerated IBM’s growth in the e-business era.

Venkat is multi-faceted leader and brings deep technology and business acumen targeting 3 deep secular trends in software: Programmable Cloud, Privacy/Security and Enterprise Ethical AI. Venkat believes that these secular trends will accelerate the Cloud Native Software era and is very passionate about scaling market opportunities at the convergence of these trends. He is currently busy incubating a next generation Identity Access platform for the Data Cloud era.
