Dr. Barak Ben-Avinoam is a seasoned venture capitalist and technology executive with deep expertise in EnergyTech, ClimaTech, and early-stage venture incubation.
Since 2022, Barak has been focusing on EnergyTech and ClimaTech investments, and on behalf of BGV led a consortium of climate and energy investors to win a license from the Israel Innovation Authority (IIA) to establish Israel’s EnergyTech and ClimaTech incubator, NetZero Technology Ventures. Barak served as the Founding CEO of NetZero during its first year of operations and currently serves as a Board Member and Investment Committee Member.
Barak also serves as a Jury Member at the European Innovation Council, which provides funding and support for breakthrough innovation projects across the EU. In this capacity, he is exposed to leading European ClimaTech and EnergyTech startup companies. Prior to this role, Barak served for five years as an Investment Committee Member at the Israel Innovation Authority, where he participated in the investment process for hundreds of early-stage Israeli tech companies.
Before joining BGV, Barak held several C-level positions in pre-seed investment platforms and technology startups in Israel, including:
- CEO of Iris Ventures, a pre-seed ICT incubator, Tel Aviv
- General Manager, Europe, at Business Layers, an enterprise software company (acquired by Netegrity), Paris
- Co-Founder & CEO of Flash Networks, a data communications company (acquired by Volaris Group), Tel Aviv
Barak holds an MBA and a Doctorate of Business Administration, with honors, from the International School of Management in Paris, France, and a B.Sc. in Information Systems, with honors, from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.
He is also a frequent guest lecturer in academic programs around the world, including NYU, Tsinghua University in China, the Technion and Tel Aviv University in Israel, ENPC and ESCP in Paris, and more.
