EverestLabs wasted no time getting right into the thick of things as WASTECON’s 2023 conference opened, holding an informative session detailing how AI and data can enhance and maximize efficiency at MRFs.
JD Ambati, Founder and CEO of EverestLabs, attracted a standing audience as he talked everyone through the key positives of implanting AI in MRF systems and what the booming technology can do for businesses and facilities. Ambati went on to stress the importance of data collection at MRFs and listed four categories that makeup RecycleOS, a recyclables recovery system that uses AI, cameras, and robotics to address recovery waste for MRFS.
RecycleOS, the first AI-powered full-stack software and hardware solution for the recycling industry, from EverestLabs, guarantees success for MRFs. RecycleOS AI can digitize recycling streams on-premise and can identify all valuable recyclables with 95% accuracy. In combination with the AI portion, Recycle OS Data gives instant insight into operationsand performance to maintain a productive facility.
Meanwhile, RecycleOS Robotics can automate and improve sorting by up to 3 times, obtaining a 90% pick rate, the highest in the industry. Bringing together the other areas of RecycleOS is the Robotics Operations Center (ROC) which eliminates downtime and tracks performance with around-the-clock professional monitoring, notifications, and issue resolution.
When installed at a MRF, the four forces of RecycleOS combine to create an ultimate tool to maintain accuracy, prepare reports, provide efficient sorting, and monitor revenue loss. RecycleOS is an AI tool ready to maximize a MRF’s potential, provide detailed information, and do repetitive, dangerous, and dirty jobs via robotics.
Ambati went over a case study that featured a single-stream MRF that was processing more than 190 tons of waste per day and did not realize how much the facility was losing to landfill and how it could improve recovery rates. The MRF implemented RecycleOS to get a clear picture of its losses and optimize the recovery of high-value containers.
Once RecycleOS had been installed at the MRF, it was found that over $650,000 of AI, PET, and HDPE containers were being missorted and were being delivered to landfills. The MRF was then able to optimize stream processes to recover $455,000 worth of commodities.
RecycleOS by EverestLabs is just one of the several AI tools that are making waves through the waste industry and there are no signs of this AI boom slowing down. As long as AI is improving diversion rates, saving facilities money, and taking over dirty and dangerous jobs, AI will forever have a role in waste.
